The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel

Discover the treasures of Tasmania's nature, cuisine, and creativity at the award-winning hotel, The Tasman. Nestled in the vibrant waterfront precinct, with kunanyi/Mount Wellington as its backdrop, this hotel—Australia's first Luxury Collection property—offers a prime location between Hobart's city center, the scenic Derwent Harbour, the MONA ferry terminal, and the iconic neighborhoods of Salamanca and Battery Point. The Tasman is a masterpiece of architectural design, seamlessly blending 1840s Georgian heritage with 1940s Art Deco and a striking modern extension from the 2020s. The original sandstone stands in dramatic contrast to a stunning glass-encased prism of contemporary architecture.

  • Your room - Heritage Studio Suites

Each of the 152 rooms and suites at The Tasman tells a unique story, reflecting the hotel's architectural evolution from the 1840s to today. The Heritage Studio Suites feature authentic Georgian elements, including vaulted doors and restored fireplaces in select rooms. The in-room experience mirrors Tasmanian culture and landscape, incorporating local materials like sandstone and native woods. Bath amenities include Tasmanian ingredients crafted by local brand Beauty and the Bees, as well as products from Grown Alchemist. The beverage selection showcases exclusive collaborations with Lark Distillery and Moo Brew, highlighting the best of local craftsmanship.

  • Dining - Peppina & Mary Mary Bar

    Peppina

For chef and Tasmanian native Massimo Mele, the secret to exceptional ingredients lies in deep connections with local producers. His dedication to ethically sourced produce drives the seasonally inspired dishes at Peppina's vibrant open kitchen. With roots in Naples, Mele infuses his Italian heritage into a menu that evolves with the seasons.

    Mary Mary

At Mary Mary, a passion for native botanicals and premium local spirits has shaped a unique cocktail bar and spirits library. Classic cocktails are reimagined with ingredients like Braeburn apples and Pigface, a coastal native succulent. The menu also features carefully selected spirits from local distilleries, with Tasmanian gin and house-blended whisky taking centre stage in signature cocktails.

Day 2: Cloudy Bay & East Cloudy Head

Approximately 5-6 hours walking

On the second day, you might notice a gentle thud near your tent as an inquisitive wallaby makes an early visit. While he’s not your official wake-up call, his presence—or perhaps the irresistible scent of freshly baked croissants—might tempt you to leave the comfort of your crisp sheets and join us once again at the rustic dining table.

Bruny Island Camp - Our Private Eco-Camp

Our groups enjoy exclusive access to our off-grid private eco camp, tucked among tall eucalypts at the foothills of Mt Mangana on southern Bruny Island.

After days spent exploring wild coastal landscapes, our camp serves as a peaceful retreat. It features a beautifully crafted celery top timber kitchen and dining room, and five canvas tents with split king beds, quality linens, and pillows. A guest favorite is the hot shower with breathtaking views.

Located at the island's southern end, our camp offers an incredible night sky, free from light pollution, where the stars shine brilliantly, and occasionally, the Aurora Australis makes a rare appearance.

  • Our Environmental Commitment

We consider it a great privilege to operate in such breathtaking landscapes and have taken every environmental consideration during the design and build process.

Our accommodation is completely off-grid, using rainwater collected from the roof and powered by a solar panel that runs pumps, energy-efficient lighting, and two power points for charging cameras. Hot water for the kitchen and outdoor shower is provided by a gas system.

Architecturally designed with minimal environmental impact, the structure is made from salvaged Celery Top Pine, sourced from Southern Forest Farm Products. The design allows the building to be relocated with little trace of its footprint.

After construction, we initiated a land restoration program, removing non-native species and reintroducing native flora. We planted Eucalyptus viminalis (white gums) to support the rare and threatened Forty-Spotted Pardalote, a bird species that thrives on Bruny Island.

We trust you’ll enjoy your days and restful nights with us.
