The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel

Discover the treasures of Tasmania's nature, cuisine, and creativity at the award-winning hotel, The Tasman. Nestled in the vibrant waterfront precinct, with kunanyi/Mount Wellington as its backdrop, this hotel—Australia's first Luxury Collection property—offers a prime location between Hobart's city center, the scenic Derwent Harbour, the MONA ferry terminal, and the iconic neighborhoods of Salamanca and Battery Point. The Tasman is a masterpiece of architectural design, seamlessly blending 1840s Georgian heritage with 1940s Art Deco and a striking modern extension from the 2020s. The original sandstone stands in dramatic contrast to a stunning glass-encased prism of contemporary architecture.

  • Your room - Heritage Studio Suites

Each of the 152 rooms and suites at The Tasman tells a unique story, reflecting the hotel's architectural evolution from the 1840s to today. The Heritage Studio Suites feature authentic Georgian elements, including vaulted doors and restored fireplaces in select rooms. The in-room experience mirrors Tasmanian culture and landscape, incorporating local materials like sandstone and native woods. Bath amenities include Tasmanian ingredients crafted by local brand Beauty and the Bees, as well as products from Grown Alchemist. The beverage selection showcases exclusive collaborations with Lark Distillery and Moo Brew, highlighting the best of local craftsmanship.

  • Dining - Peppina & Mary Mary Bar

    Peppina

For chef and Tasmanian native Massimo Mele, the secret to exceptional ingredients lies in deep connections with local producers. His dedication to ethically sourced produce drives the seasonally inspired dishes at Peppina's vibrant open kitchen. With roots in Naples, Mele infuses his Italian heritage into a menu that evolves with the seasons.

    Mary Mary

At Mary Mary, a passion for native botanicals and premium local spirits has shaped a unique cocktail bar and spirits library. Classic cocktails are reimagined with ingredients like Braeburn apples and Pigface, a coastal native succulent. The menu also features carefully selected spirits from local distilleries, with Tasmanian gin and house-blended whisky taking centre stage in signature cocktails.

Day 1: Hobart — Tasman Camp

Approximately 3-4 hours walking

A few minutes into our journey, we’ll arrive at Brooke Street Pier. If weather permits, we’ll board our private boat, Wild Thing, for a 90-minute cruise to Nubeena, packed with spectacular coastal sights and engaging stories.

Alternatively, if the seas are rough, we’ll travel by bus. From Nubeena, we all regroup and head to the Remarkable Caves trailhead by bus, carrying only lightweight day packs for a 3-4 hour walk.

The Remarkable Caves, with their ancient sandstone tunnel carved by the sea, are just the beginning. We’ll traverse sand dunes covered in coastal heath and climb Mt Brown for sweeping views of Cape Raoul, Cape Pillar, and Tasman Island on clear days. We then descend to Crescent Bay and follow our private track to Tasman Camp. There, enjoy a hot rainwater shower, relax with a Tasmanian wine, and savour a meal prepared by our guides. End the day stargazing out towards Cape Pillar & Tasman Island before retiring to your comfy private tent.

Day 2: Cape Raoul

Approximately 5-6 hours walking

Wake to the serene silence of the Tasmanian wilderness and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. After a relaxed morning, we'll lace up our boots for the walk to Cape Raoul.

We'll start with a gentle climb through eucalypt forests, gradually revealing the grand Tasman Sea. The descent to Cape Raoul lookout offers stunning views and, on a clear day, a perfect spot for lunch. If the weather isn’t favorable, we'll find sheltered spots along the track. As the first of the 'Three Capes', Cape Raoul offers panoramic views of the Tasman National Park, complete with the soundscape of a seal colony a few hundred metres below.

After the return walk, a short transfer brings us back to camp for a couple of restful hours. Enjoy the views, read a book, and then gather for a hearty dinner to share stories from the day. Our guides serve up dishes inspired by fresh and local produce, all served on our long table and designed to be shared with a glass of Tassie wine.

By 1 pm, we'll be on the bus heading to a renowned vineyard for an all-inclusive celebratory lunch and wine tasting. Afterward, it's an easy drive back to the city for your transfer to the Tasman.
